Americans don’t like to spend more on groceries. This is the most common thing you can do. Just walk into Wegmans and Kroger to purchase one item. We all try our best not to.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi can sometimes be more expensive than Walmart when it comes to seafood and other produce. Aldi’s stores are outnumbered by Walmart 2-to-1. Walmart has also dropped the prices of many Great Value items. Aldi sometimes isn’t the best value, though it can be quite a bit more.
Let’s look at the top-selling and most common groceries and then see how they compare when we put them side-by-side.
To keep this simple, I followed a basic methodology.
Aldi and Walmart prices might differ slightly depending upon where they’re situated. Aldi does list prices online but not Instacart. In this case Aldi lists their prices on the website. My receipts date back one year.
Walmart.com had the following information: The address, and consequently the prices, were for a small town in the Great Lakes region.
The only thing I did was compare popular grocery products.
There are no other options. Items can only be compared by the price per ounce and pound.
A final disclaimer. Prices may change at anytime in any location. Although I tried to be accurate, the price listed is only a snapshot and not an official price list.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for a majority of the produce prices.
Aldi claims that it receives new orders every day, and the stock rotates – so there is no need to complain about the quality of Aldi’s produce.
*Note: Tyson was the only brand that had comparable pork loin at Walmart.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for meat prices, except seafood.
*Note: Walmart only carries Thomas brand bagel thins.
Because Walmart does not carry their own bagel thins brand, I used the Thomas brand to substitute. Walmart doesn’t compare as favorably to their own bagel thins, which would be even better if they did.
Aldi bread prices won the day in all categories except for three.
Aldi’s specialty, flavored Ice Cream is almost unfairly compared with Walmart’s Prices, as Walmart does not make its own.
However, this is what they sell that is comparable, and Aldi will save you two whole dollars! People love these flavors.
Walmart stays pretty competitive in the pasta and grains category, even besting Aldi where instant white rice is concerned.
If you are a regular rice eater and have access to a rice cooker, buying a bag of Jasmine Rice from Aldi will save you money in the long-term.
Walmart has a lot of great deals for families who love Triscuit and chip knock-offs. Aldi wins in all other snacks categories.
Walmart has a lower price than Aldi on raw honey. But that isn’t surprising when you consider Aldi was a post-WWII grocery store with basic goods for any country recovering from a natural disaster.
Aldi is the most affordable when it comes to stocking up on condiments and oils.
Aldi’s low prices for these basic ingredients are something that every baker should know.
The baking soda 50 cents box is by far the best, at 32 cents more than Walmart’s wallet-friendly cost.
It’s important to bear in mind that dairy prices can fluctuate pretty frequently, but Aldi continuously beats Walmart – except for a one-cent difference on butter.

Aldi is not always cheaper than Walmart, but that shouldn’t discourage shoppers. Aldi’s per-shopping cart prices will be less if you do not plan to prepare a seafood meal, and you would definitely see an increase in your overall spending over time.
