We rarely test TVs larger than 70 inches, and we prefer to focus our testing on smaller 65-inch TVs that are comparable in performance and feature. We expect a similar 65-inch television from a manufacturer to be as great, and so our selections of these TVs are based on our experiences with smaller TVs.
There isn’t many 70-inch TVs available on the market so there are fewer choices.
Vizio V-Series V705-H13 was our favorite 70-inch model. The set is affordable at as little as $650, and comes with a lot of features. This is one of our favorite TVs. It has a full-array backlight that produces great color and brightens the TV. HDR support is also available. Its sleek and fashionable design gives the impression that you’ve spent more money than you did. Vizio SmartCast Platform runs this device. This platform comes with almost all the apps, but not all.
If you’re looking for a more robust smart TV platform and can pay more, the Samsung UN70TU7000FXZA is worth a look. You get Samsung’s Tizen operating platform, along with almost all the apps you need. Although it produces an excellent overall image, the picture is not as sharp as that of Vizio V-Series. If you own multiple devices, you might find it difficult to use the two HDMI ports.

For example, the best 65 inch TV models may offer slightly higher specs, even within the price range.
While it may sound like a huge expense, you should still upgrade your television’s audio system. Although a UHD 4K smart TV is sure to provide exceptional image quality, its built-in speakers will not deliver the same level of sound quality as surround sound. Amazon Fire TV and Alexa, the voice-enabled digital assistant with Alexa are both built in to this set.
The 2020 Smart TV set is an affordable option for those looking to buy a smart TV. The set boasts excellent picture quality and Amazon’s Fire TV smart TV system. This set is similar to many others of its size. It does have a limited viewing angle. If you aren’t planning on hosting a movie-night celebration around a 32″ screen it won’t matter too much. These are great savings. Now the model is at its lowest price since Prime Day.
Hisense 43″ 4K Roku TV. At the moment, this Hisense 43R7G5 is only available at Costco. Also, we haven’t tested this model. Hisense 4K Rokus in the range are generally good for image quality and HDR performance. This deal will be available until Nov. 14. Costco bundles TVs with extended warranties, particularly larger sets that are more expensive. This could help make their deals more appealing than similar-priced competitors.
LG 50-Inch Smart TV 4K This LG 50UP7670PUC set is an exclusive Costco deal for members. The price remains valid through Nov. 29. While it’s similar in price to other retailers and warehouse clubs, this set costs more at BJ’s. Many of LG’s cheaper TVs were not as good in our ratings.
65 inch Tvs
This is LG’s entry-level OLED TV for 2020. It has a slightly slower processor, and this is what makes it different from the CX models. They scored slightly higher in the CR’s tests but cost about $200 more. Overall, the performance is identical. As with all LG OLEDs this model supports Dolbyatmos audio. The sound can be enhanced to give it a 3-D effect.
LG 65-Inch 4K Smart TV This set, the LG 65UP7670PUC, is sold only at warehouse clubs; it is $20 cheaper at BJ’s than at Costco or Sam’s Club. This set was not tested so can’t give any specific comments on the picture quality. However, other LG 4K entry-level sets in 2021 have shown mixed results, some with poor overall quality.
Vizio 65 inch P-Series Smart TV 4K We did not test this set. Instead, we tested the Vizio P65Q9J01 which is near the top in Vizio’s 2021 line-up. The 75-inch model was tested and passed all tests. It did not perform as well for HDR, but it is very good overall. All major HDR formats are supported by these sets, such as HDR10 and HDR10+. They also support Dolby Vision (HLG) and Dolby Vision. It uses the Android-based SmartCast smart TV system, with support for Amazon, Apple, and Google voice assistants. Note these sets are being discounted by $100 at some retailers already (through Nov. 14), but if you wait until a second sale starting Nov. 19 you’ll save up to $300, depending on the retailer.
LG 65″ C1 Series 4K LED Smart TV. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to test this OLED 65-inch TV. The C1 Series is LG’s next generation of TVs. The LG OLED65C1PUB is a comparable model that can be purchased at mass-markets and electronics stores. We tested it and found it to have excellent sound quality, high picture quality, and HDR. (Since it’s now selling at about the same price as the BX set above, we think it’s a better deal.) Costco has a great price through November 21.
70-Inch To 82-Inch Tvs
The Best Buy model is sold at a satisfactory picture quality. It falls short in HDR performance (high dynamic range), however. This set comes equipped with the Android TV system as well as the built-in Google Assistant.
Onn 70-Inch 4K Roku Smart TV This 70-inch set, at a very low price, is from Onn, Walmart’s house brand for electronics. Onn 100068378, the Onn 70002588, was not tested. A 70-inch Onn 4K Smart TV, Onn 100012588, was also in our ratings. This TV had average picture quality. It did better with 4K than HD but could not provide HDR. Hisense’s entry-level ULED set, which includes quantum dots that allow you to see a greater range of colors, has this smart TV of 75 inches 4K. The picture quality is satisfactory. HDR efficiency was limited. It has a number of step-up features, including a full-array LED backlight with local dimming and support for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos Audio. This TV is compatible with the Android TV smart TV platforms, as well as Amazon’s Alexa digital voice assistant.
This TV series is an upgrade to Samsung’s entry level QLED sets. It delivers excellent picture quality, with limited HDR performance. This TV is a great deal as the Q60 entry-level model (which lacks certain features) sells for about the same price.
