Ex-Employee Says Racism Forced Her To Quit Rideau Hall Job
6 months back A Rideau Hall former employee tells CBC News about the racial discrimination that forced her to quit after being reprimanded by her employer for speaking out against anti Black racism. 3:06 PM The government has begun rebuilding Governor General's office following the resignation of Julie Payette, her second-in command, and Assunta Dilrenzo. This was in response to a damning report that a consultant firm had issued. It found that both were responsible for a toxic and poisonous workplace.
Consulting firm had the mandate to help define the problem and not find facts. According to the report, workplace investigators found evidence of "yelling and screaming", aggressive behavior, humiliation, insulting comments, and yelling." Rideau Hall refused to address El Hilali’s particulars in its reply to CBC News. The office said it's in an "important period of renewal" and is "taking meaningful action regarding the unjust treatment of Black people, other racialized groups, and Indigenous peoples in our society." Rideau Hall's office stated that it supported the appeal by Ian Shugart of Clerk of Privy Council last month for the end of "all forms discrimination and oppression" within the public sector. Shugart addressed the heads of each department, asking them to fight racism to ensure employees are empowered and feel safe speaking up when faced with barriers to equity or inclusion.
'A Lot Of Silent Suffering': Khadija El Hilali Describes Her Time At Rideau Hall
Khadija El Hilali, a 6 month old woman who says she faced racism and discrimination at Rideau Hall six months prior to leaving. 4:38 The Trudeau government pledged during its speech from the throne last September to "address systemic racism." Payette read the speech. "Many people — especially Indigenous people and Black and racialized Canadians–have raised their voices to demand change," she said. "They tell us that we have to do more. "The government has agreed." Trudeau repeated this message last week at a news conference, and then reflected on Black Lives Matter protests around Canada.
Trudeau, on Friday, said "I saw," "I heard you. And I agree. It is past time to make changes. Eli Hilali stated that Trudeau cannot keep promising more. She has launched an online petition calling for mandatory inclusion and diversity training for all students at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa to help eliminate discrimination.
El Hilali wrote her resignation, concluding that "anti-Black" and all forms of racism were not political.

Armed Member Of Canadian Forces Arrested At Rideau Hall
1 year ago A Canadian Forces member, Corey Hurren, was taken into custody at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. 1:49 However, his Facebook posts revealed that the Pandemic had also taken its toll on his company.
He wrote, May 26, that he was unsure what would happen to our economy, businesses and industries after this event.
Both Harjit Sajjan, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, and his office confirmed earlier that the man was being held is the military.
CBC News heard from a source that the man came from Manitoba, had a long gun with him and a paper note. According to the source, they could not discuss the matter because they weren't authorized.

Justin Trudeau is the prime minister of Canada, and his family live at Rideau Cottage just a few steps from the greenhouse.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, neither the prime minister nor his family was at Rideau Cottage on Wednesday night nor Thursday morning. RCMP confirmed that Governor General also wasn't there.
The Governor of Canada made the following statement to CBC: General Julie Payette said that she used to live on the same grounds before the pandemic. She also stated that her staff members were all safe.
Police Investigating After Arresting Man On Grounds Of Rideau Hall
1 year ago the RCMP said they detained an armed person on Rideau Hall's grounds. This was Thursday morning. Neither the prime minister nor the Governor General were present at the time. 1:10 He was then shown what he termed an armoured patrol vehicle.
