It seems that Walmart has surpassed Amazon in global dominance, becoming the world’s largest retailer.
Particularly in the area of high population density, there is fierce competition on the international market.
It’s natural to ask: Are Walmart stores available in India and Delhi, with China being the most popular. You won’t find the answer to your question if I don’t have it.
Is Walmart In India Or Delhi In 2022?
Walmart has no stores in either India or Delhi as of 2022. Walmart controls Flipkart Group in India, which includes its subsidiaries Myntra and PhonePe. Walmart plans to close Indian physical stores.

Flipkart was an Indian-founded, existing ecommerce company acquired by Walmart in 2018.
The company’s seemingly unlimitless resources allow them to be very selective in their entry into new markets.
While this may seem difficult, it is possible to forget that different cultures, and even different buyers, might not regard the American approach to retail as the pleasant, enjoyable experience U.S. residents enjoy.
Walmart was not the only company to enter the UK through acquisitions of Asda stores.
It’s therefore not surprising they decided to go a different way than opening Supercenters in a country where the population density is about 1,100 per square mile.
Walmart India, Delhi or Other Locations
You can shop for Indian Walmart products in India, even though there aren’t any Walmart Supercenters, Discount Stores, or Neighborhood Markets.
That includes Flipkart’s website. Amazon meets Wish feel to the website and all its related apps.
Just the initial home page boasts a selection ranging from watches, to ceiling fans, to phones, to chocolate.
You have a few options, however, for brick and mortar experience in India/Delhi.

As I mentioned, there are nearly 30 locations throughout India, with one store about 51 miles from Delhi.
Wholesale warehouses can be expensive, but they aren’t for everyday shoppers.
They’re for owners of MSMEs (micro and small enterprises) or kiranas (neighborhood stores).
These shops are more than an important part of Indian economics. They’re also interwoven with the fabric of Indian communities.
These are the heart of many Indian families.

Is Walmart Coming To India?
This begs the question: Why are there no Walmarts in India?
Indian laws largely prohibit foreign firms from entering the country, which in turn chokes out the current network of mom and pops.
Walmart navigates or uses loopholes within the law, depending on which interpretation you use, to profit from India’s growing population and economic strength.
Second, despite reports of an inexorably growing middle class that is mobile and upwardly mobile, data at the end 2020 tell a completely different story.
Global Coronavirus pandemic drove 32 million Indians from the middle class. However, the 75 million people earning less than $2 per daily increased.
India’s third largest economy is also the most impoverished country in the world.
It would not be possible to envision Walmart operating a Supercenter, even though India has more favorable economic rules.
Walmart was granted permission by the Indian government to open stores branded in 2012.
But it didn’t work out. Walmart was wise in entering India in this manner in 2018, “infiltrating” so to speak and setting up shop through the existing retail network.
