In the past we thought color laser printers too expensive to use at home due to both the high-cost of color toner, and the more costly up-front costs. But, the prices are gradually falling to an acceptable level (between $200 and 300), so we believe these printers offer the best overall value for anyone looking for trouble-free printing. They're still expensive compared with inkjets and monochrome lasers especially when it comes time to replenish toner but the convenience and flexibility of a color laser machine can't be overstated. We looked at the following:
Easy setup and ease of use: A printer should be easy to set up, but it also shouldn't make you mad when printing is required.
The reasonable upfront cost of a printer for home use: We recommend that no one spends more than $300 on a print-only color machine. While we did research on more expensive printers, the majority of those that we test for this guide were under $300.
Lower cost of operation. While an inexpensive up-front payment is nice, it's actually a very low per-print expense that can make all the difference long-term. A printer that can print a black-andwhite page in 3C/ (or less) using the least expensive toner was what we were looking for. While color pages can be more costly than black-and-white pages, we kept the price under 15C per page.
Two-sided automatic printing: Automatic two-sided printing saves time and money. We considered only those printers that are capable of duplex printing without human intervention, meaning models that can print on one side, suck the paper back in, and print on the other side.
Wi-Fi and mobile print: Since most home printers use Wi-Fi, we ruled out those that didn't have it. Additionally, the printers were tested for printability via tablets or smartphones.
The laser printers produce sharp prints, even simple graphics. We tested them all to determine how visible and legible the text was at small font sizes. Also, whether flow charts and graphs were vibrant and smooth. And whether or not photos could be used.

Brother HL-L2350DW is a simple, affordable, and dependable monochrome laser printer. Even with some quirks, it is an ideal choice for basic printing needs such as recipes, taxes and boarding passes.
A machine with this simple setup makes it easy for you to do the physical set-up. Simply remove the packing tape and place the toner cartridge. Adjust the paper-tray guides to fit your paper, then load it with paper. Getting the printer on Wi-Fi is a little more complicated to do with this model than with some other printers because the HL-L2350DW employs a decidedly old-school user interface that consists of a one-line monochrome LED display and an array of rubber buttons. It is impossible to input a WiFi passkey directly on the machine. You will have to do this using your PC. We still managed to get it connected to our network in just a few minutes. The printer also maintained reliable connectivity throughout our testing even though the router was located several floors below. Some owners have reported issues with this printer's predecessor, the HL-L2340DW, refusing to wake up from Deep Sleep mode, so we were happy to find that the new model didn't give us any problems of the sort during our testing. There is no need for additional software to run the HL-L2350DW. It has both native Windows and Mac drivers. It also works automatically with Air. Print on i. OS. It can also be used with Brother Print Service Android. Brother's i. Print&Scan apps are available for all four platforms. The app works just as well as HP's software. Regardless of our choice in quality setting, we were unable to print from i. Print&Scan without a problem. Brother could not be reached for comment. Avoid the app, and instead print using your native print dialog on your operating system. This works perfectly.
In our testing, we found that the HL-2450DW printed good looking text right from the box. Small fonts such as tax forms, which are only 2 points in size, were easily read. However larger headers produced crisp edges with dark centers. This printer is capable of printing large amounts of text. At default settings, test graphics and photos looked only average. In solid-color areas there was light banding and the graphics felt a little grainy. The output is good enough for personal use or internal business documents, and you can improve it with adjustments to toner density and resolution settings (at the expense of toner longevity) if you need to hand out documents to clients.
